The Community Service Program for graduating students and those in 6th and Premiere is designed to encourage students to volunteer while providing flexibility in scheduling and choice of activity. We believe that at this stage IC students are able to make their own choices and be responsible towards fulfilling their requirements.
The students were given a list of 11 institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from which they have to select one that they will volunteer with for 30hrs.
We have contacted all these NGOs and agreed with them on the types of projects our students will be involved with. Your son or daughter is expected to attend a first introductory meeting at IC or at the institutions, and contact the organization and arrange a schedule that best suits both student and NGO. We will be monitoring attendance and performance through direct communication with NGO workers. At the same time students are required to submit a record sheet upon which they will have recorded their volunteering hours. The students will be going to these NGOs on an individual basis or as small groups and will not be using IC buses since there are so many different groups. Students will be supervised by the NGO directors and volunteers and not by IC staff.
We hope that this program will foster a spirit of responsibility and self-motivation as well as offer IC students an opportunity to learn about the different social work being conducted in Lebanon. For this program to be successful we will need your cooperation and support. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the community service office at I.C. (extension 149).
